Welcome
New York State Regents Chemistry
This course is designed to give you an in-depth view of chemistry and prepare you for college level chemistry courses in the future. The course itself consists of both a class and laboratory section in which we will explore micro and macro levels of chemistry. We will explore exciting topics as atomic structure, the periodic table, stoichiometry, chemical bonding, physical behavior of matter, kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, redox, electrochemistry, organic chemistry and nuclear chemistry.
What is a "Flipped Classroom"?
The flipped classroom is different from an online course. A flipped classroom reverses the roles of homework and lecture. Students watch a short video lectures for homework while taking notes and completing practice examples based on the video. The next day in class, we work together to review those concepts, evaluate the students understanding, and address difficulties or common misconceptions. Students then move on to complete critical thinking questions, hands-on activities, labs, debates, discussions etc. in collaborative groups. By "flipping" the class, lectures are now under the control of the students: they can watch and re-watch as many times as needed. Devoting class time to application of chemistry concepts gives the instructor the opportunity to detect misunderstandings or errors in thinking.
